My Free Day

*salad above + arabian rice+ chicken..yummy...*

I don't remember when was the last time I had an off day during my semesters--one day off between the transition period of subjects.Been real a long time, that's what I know for sure.A chance came today for group 531E...*vihodnii dien*

Had a good sleep, woke up 1 hour later. My mobile alarm rang melodiously "Oh,My lord" ringtone.I did wake up,turned it off and got back to sleep.

After getting settled down around 11am,I started with my paediatrics.Yeap, will be starting the end semester exam rotation tomorrow!! Going to be real exhausting but a FUN cum interesting cycle..what do you expect? It will be an exhilarating moments since I have to get prepared for the exam which comprises 3 semesters work. Not going to be easy,so have to really really word hard and get prepared well. After all ,Navanita is DETERMINED!

At about 2 pm,sevvanthee was cooking wherelse I just got down to the hostel's 'stalovaya'@ cafe, got my favourite meal and climbed upstairs.Sevvanthee: "hey.you're on break right?cookla.." Me: "*giggled*,malasla..moreover my resources are running out, need to get to ashan this week!"..lol..and that's me,just a run to the cafe to feed my grumbling stomach and to minimise the insult to my gastric mucosal layers from the secreted hydrocloric acid.

Whenever I will be at home/in my room,my appetite will definitely be so unsual..get bigger here,I mean.I had breakfast with biscuits, lunch. At 5pm,I got myself a bar bar of Kit Kat,finished munching it.Then around 9pm,I made myslef so called supper "egg omelette and 2 nuggets"..yeah i know it;s not a very healthy diet, but atleast the tomatoes+slices of cucumbers+a quarter egg+some leafy green veg would have balanced my intakes today,I hope:p

Thank you,Prof.Parshikof.

*with the most respected and acknowledged prof*
30th september'09 @ 0046

My second cycle for the sem came to an end today. As much as group 531E will be missing Prof.Parshikof,I'm sure he will be missing us terribly too.Normally the latest he would let us go,at 1 pm.Today,he just wanted to show us more and more,he didn;t want to leave behind any of his plans throughout our rotation.

Amongst the many Profs/doctors/surgeons I have come across,Prof.Parshikof has 'the thing'/what it takes to be a great paediatrics surgeon/a physician.Being under him for 9 days is not adequate..can I join him back during winter practicals?

Being the experienced surgeon cum professor,he takes everything that comes in his way in a more cooler attitude and deals with them without hesitation. That is something that to be learnt from him,seriously..well that's what differentiates a senior physician and the amateur ones.

Ask any of my groupmates,we will way ...'WE Love him!"..His favourite phrase is " Need to think, step by step...see where's the heart, the liver, the stomach"..(while looking at the CXR),..and our favourite phrase of his "Think,..take a cup of tea/coffee...it's so simple, isn;t it?No problem,right?..Paediatrics surgery is all easy, like I have said!"..*sir,we salute you!*

I was stuck in a 'crucial' situation today while interpreting an XRY given to me.One would have easily guessed it was bone tumor based on today;s topic and when your counterparts got the easy variants of bone tumor.Mine could be acute osteomyelitis or bone tumor!I was..."present periosteal reaction(both thin lines downwards and crossing over),irregular border typical for bone tumor, and adjacent bone tissue destruction which is typical for OM and Bone tumor!!!".."what to do?"-Prof asked.I was to answer 'bone tumor' but he wrote on a white board: ( in russian: lechith nelzia ampurirovath)..and I had to choose..though it was just a question, but the I found it very difficult to make my decision when the exact diagnosis is not sure.If it's tumor, one has to be amputated!Amputation,ok,not joke..how are you supposed to amputate someone without distinct confirmation on your diagnosis. After much thoughts,I said' amputation" after being VERY sure on what I saw on the X-ray!...AND-- Prof agreed..I exhaled a breath of relief...I will be dealing with humans ok,I need to be VERY SURE in what I'm doing,I can;t say "MAYBE"!

After much explanation and a visit to the oncology department where numerous cuties(kids) are playing with their mates happily despite their severe diseases,Prof gave us zachut on our books. His last reminder for us was(in russian):"Nice weather,go for a walk, don;t forget the boys and then MUST STUDY,STUDY AND STUDY".

We said good bye and thank you, left his comfy room with lots of memories.

He thought us not to EVER be afraid to do manipulations on patients.Remember the main aim of a doctor is to save the patient,at any cost.

"You are the one in white coat, you can do anything you want because you are the DOCTOR.When you cannot resuscitate a patient by the ABC,remove your shoes, use your foot and BRING BACK the patient to LIVE!There's nothing wrong in it!Remember,You;re The DOCTOR!"---this is the best thing that I've ever heard from a surgeon.

Thanks a million sir, you're definitely will be in all our hearts.Hope to see you again.

Switched O.F.F mode

* sacrococcygeal teratoma in an infant*
28th september'09@ 2320

Out of the blues, the day didn't go well for me.Morning it was all fine with practicals in 3rd hostel with Prof.Parshikof.In addition did per rectal examination and proctoscopy on a dummy(obviously!).Practiced more on how to do IM,IV and suturing.Came back to room around 12pm.While waiting for the time to turn 2 pm,I was memorising my russian text..*should've started yesterday but I didn't right after completing the CXR made easy*

First factor of my hastiness is ,today for practical examination which we were supposed to pass up 2 weeks ago.I and few others didn;t go since we were having our tb exams.Reached around 3 pm,and Dr.Natalia Genedevna arrived and the first person to go in was Xiang yun.As we were waiting outside with all kinds of speculations on what questions will be asked to us,we heard a VERY familiar voice...and all of us stopped talking, gasped and mouthed "ANDREVNA!"..for sure all our faces had turned white at that very moment but too bad we didn;t snap a photo at that very moment! Perhaps for once all of us got conned by someone with a similar voice like Dr.Andrevna!! We waited and waited..and finally came my turn.Went in,explained to Dr.Natalia why I couldn't make it for the examination on the scheduled date. She asked " So tell me what's interesting in emergency department where you did your practicals"..I replied "cases on snake bites, asthmatic attacks, accident cases..." "okay, how do you treat status asthmaticus?"..I :"bronchodilators:salbutamol"..She looked at me wearily..I was thinking "was it wrong?" but continued telling " O2 therapy, artificial ventilation,Corticosteroids"..."okay,good mark" she said and gave me a 4 for my summer practicals report!! I said thank you and left..hey I was quite pissed because i don;t know why...perhaps it was our fault or maybe she was just too tired after the long hours in hospital and yeah indeed she was in a bad mood ,too.Only then I knew, all of us GOT 4 from her!!!duh..1st turn off for the day!

Secondly,I was okay with my russian text but when it was about my turn to retell,I was thinking of telling the Madam Tatyana that I would like to prepare better for it but my fat ego told me not to and I finished retelling it..I wasn't satisfied because I think i could have done it better.I asked the teacher whether she wants me to retell it next week but she said "no,you don;t have to.You did good.".. but,I don;t think the same you know..ermm.

Finally as i was reading on the topic oncology for the last classof paeds surgery tomorrow,I got more depressed after coming across photos of infants with tumors..*look at the picture above*..

p/s: a small smile for chipsmore which made my headache (confined to my occipital lobe)disappear within few seconds.
Okay, enough for today,I'm going to bed now!

A Sudden change of wind

I'm supposedly be sleeping right now but i'm still wide awake.Done with my readings,err..russian text i shall wake up tomorrow and memorise it but tomorrow i have practical examination, therefore I don't know whether I will be able to attend russian class.Anyhow,to play safe,I shall do my part before leaving to paeds.

After the much 'politics' which me ,sevvanthee, maalini, kiran(partly),suvin and karan had endured for the past few years, our minor malaysian indian community(MISA) which earlier was said to be 'adjourned forever' was back again to 'life'! I can tell you here,we have never had anything against the other group.Impatience and superiority feelings made a peaceful meeting turned to be an ugly meeting when we disagreed on their plan.Well that happened 2 years ago, after I passed my vice president post to a junior.

Ever since then,me,maalini and sevvanthee have always stayed away from their meetings though we were invited profusely to join them. But,we JUST STAYED AWAY!Still that didn't prevent the president to got us involved in their activities;deepavali night etc.We made things clearer earlier that,we will help with the juniors but we are no longer will be in the association. So,that prolonged till yesterday,sunday(27th september'09).

What happened, nita?A junior messaged me asking the 3 of us to join the meeting in our hostel,7th floor at 9pm.Maalini came into our room.I said "we have to go!"..Maalini and sevvanthee shot each other looks.I continued "we go and make ATTENDANCE..we don't vote for anyone!"..

So we went, guess our appearance suprised the 6th years. We found a spot nearby the window and stood still. Then came the moment of ice-breaking since 3 new juniors are present:2 boys and a girl.

Later on,new comittee members were elected. And here,we are certain that everything was planned 'slickly'...sevvanthee was elected to become the president(since she voiced out 2 years ago!) though she refused totake up the post.Kiran became the vice..and jonas the batch rep.Insisted but retorted by sevvanthee..and the victim was Kiran as the new president for the year 2009/2010,jonas the vice and sevvanthee the batch rep!

Pizza and coke were served but we didn;t help ourselves. The former president ushered us by carrying a box of vegetarian pizza, but we said 'thank you' and left. No,i'm not being arrogant here but my vegetarianism will be ending today wherelse sevvanthee and maalini's reason: 'we already had dinner!"

We came back, had our short meeting in my room,410 and had agood laugh about what had happened..and the conclusion is "We are the VIPS!"

and now,who said there's no political crisis between medical students?..and it will continue even when we have good intention for all.

Krishna,you're the charmer.

A sweet weekend without exams around the corner..it's incomparable to any other days, folks. But with my determination,I shall not let my ample free time/leisure time(you can address it that way, too) lure me away by just watching movies.I did live up to my words,I finished rewriting my lecture on Acute Radiation Injury, started with reading Chest X-Ray made easy..still have few more pages to go.I think i will be able to finish it today~

Weekend without movies? No! Finally,I managed to watch the most awaited Final Destination 4,sadly it wasn't as thrilling/gorry like the previous 3..the movie could have been more better, well that's my opinion!Saturday night after back from our Raya Open house,I read few pages on CXR then watched 'obsessed'-- usually it;s the adam species who will be exerting mental and emotional torture to the eve species, but this movie turned out to be the opposite.Sarah recommended the movie, not bad after all with Beyonce Knowles as co-star.Went to bed at 2 am.

Sunday morning, woke up at abt 9 am since roomie was awake early. After a good shower and prayers, mad emyself a cup of coffee, and yeah crackers to go along with it,sat infront of my DELL,turned on my current addiction(songs on Lord Krishna) and I just got immersed fully into them.I HAVE to say here that, the albums are definitely a big success. It's certainly a good way to attract youngsters to enjoy the holy chants and devotional songs.Their fusion of music, the sanskrit terms are simply mesmerising.Lord Krishna, you;re THE CHARMER OF THE GOPIS.

Since Krishna is my hero,I was playing the songs all day long in my playlist, listening to them with my earphones, changed my ringtone, alarm and message tones to these songs..see?that's how addicted I am to the songs.Check out the albums entitled:

1.Madhuram,My Sweet Lord

2.Thulasi.

So will be ending my sunday today in 6 hours time, still need to get done with my laundry, memorise a russian text and do extra readings.

Tomorrow paeds surgery will be in 3rd hostel where we will be doing practicals on the dummies:IV,IM etc. It's going to be cool as usual ;)Okay, see ya then,bloggie..let's see how this week enfolds*wink*

Raya Open House in Nizhny Novgorod'09.

26th september'09 @ 1920

The annual Raya Open housewas held today at 3pm outside hostel 3.It was a total different environment, compared to the one held in previous years because today, everyone was served outdoors!! Yeah, the mats were placed on the ground,so that all the Malaysians(1Malaysia) can sit and enjoy the scrumptuous foods prepared by our muslim friends.I enjoyed the foods very much though i'm on vegetarian diet.Had nasi himpit with kuah kacang, nasi minyak, kek pisang,agar-agar and a glass of juice. The breeze was too cold that nearly most of us were shivering non-stop.I had my meal in Pearly;s room, though with sevvanthee ,jonas, grace, chau ling and others.

No occasions are complete without photographs right?so here you go,especially from outside my hostel,Nizhny Novgorod,RUS.
Selamat Hari Raya to all my kawan-kawan yang disayangi.

When it's not an exam cycle..

* In Prof's room:a snap with Abdalla on his birthday(today!)*

23rd September'09 @ 2130

I' m free with nothing to do RIGHT NOW?!!! You're absolutely wrong if you think that way.There are things which I'm supposed to be doing for instance;

1.rewrite my internal medicine lectures but my lecture book is with sarah, will be getting back tomorrow.so have to put off that plan now.

2.thought I would take hours to make notes on Meckel's Diverticulum and Acute Osteomyelitis, but life was made easy by the lecture materials which we took from the prof today. Moreover,I couldn't find this topics in the big blue book of paeds surgery.

3.Read on Abdominal X-ray made easy?Need to sharpen my skills though for the better when it comes interpreting the X-Rays..just like ECG.I'm still working on it.But I'm proud to say,I'm progressing better compared to when i was in 2nd year!!!talk about getting so madly in love with cardio, hence I see myself getting more 'intimate' with ECG;)

4.Revise the basic medical subject: HUMAN ANATOMY!! Only had consistent revision and midnight struggles remembering all the arteries, veins, nerves, innervations, functions in 1st and 2nd year.Once the exam was over,HUMAN ANATOMY only a 'snippet' in medical studies. So ,I have to GET STARTED!!!

5.Paediatrics answer scheme for the year end exam!I'm yet to get started with it.Class notes, lectures of 2 semesters are complete. My additional notes are complete( except for Cardiology:VSD,ASD,TOF..)So,have to add information on 1st semester work. Then, need to check the already pre-made answer scheme by the former seniors, just not to miss other points which I might have ignored. In addition to Nelson's essentials of Paediatrics,I bought another Paeds book recommended by the Dr.Allan -Illustrated Textbook of Paediatrics by Lissauer Clayden.

Frankly,I can always opt to watch movie/take some time to relax but it contradicts with my usual routine. And if I still do it,my guiltiness will kill me in the next coming days.Guess I'm just too used to being occupied(during exam rotations) that whenever I'm supposed to take 5,i will still think of what to do next even when my mind pleads,"let's watch a movie, nita?"
