*THE FATHER OF MEDICINE:THE GREAT HIPPOCRATES*

"A burning candle,for others"-is a famous quote from a Dutch Physician,Van Tulip,who wanted to make 'a burning candle' as the motto which symbolises the doctors' profession.Doctor's profession comprises many aspects:highly knowledgeable,must be hardworking,ready to work in any conditions,a perfectionist of all time besides being loving towards the patients,mourn together when others in pain,be kind,patient and kind-heartedness.





One of the most prominent Russian Internists,Prof.M.P Konchalovskii said " one can be a bad writer,artiste or actor,BUT ONE CANNOT AND SHOULD NOT BE A BAD DOCTOR".A doctor has an enormous responsibility for in him entrusted the most valuable asset -life of a patient.A doctor should 'fall ill' together with his patient,sense and feel the pain of others just like his own.On a first call,a doctor should hurry to his alleviate his patient from pain regardless of his own desires.


As said by Drevnii Indii,"a doctor should do everything that's possible to save his patient's life even when it cost his own life."





A doctor MUST be in courages/in a good spirit so that he can attend to his patients efficently,think wisely,diagnose and treat his patients correctly.A good doctor does everything on his own will so that he gains trust from his patients.The believe/faith one has on his doctor- effective medicines.An Ancient physician Ibnu-Sina(Avicenna) said," a doctor has 3 instruments:-words,plan,knife".He equated a doctor's words to the scalpel of a surgeon.In Hippocratic oath which is recited by the young physicians,it is quoted to be "TO WHATEVER HOUSES THAT I ENTER,I WILL GO INTO THEM FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE SICK,AND WILL ABSTAIN FROM EVERY VOLUNTARY ACT OF MISCHIEF AND CORRUPTION".





Excellent as it is a doctor's profession!It restores a patient's life and health-what else can be more important?





For the very first time in my life,I was driven by such a force to translate this russian class' text which i'm supposed to be reciting to the teacher tomorrow.Qualities of a doctor should have-talk about being physician here.It is a time of your life to be one especially after having gone through the intermittent phases as jr.hippocrates.





The text certainly inspires one to be a better doctor(well,it does exert effect on me!) though it's not a piece of cake to retell it in russian!
